Broas de Mel

Made with luscious treacle, fragrant spices and a hint of lemon zest, these crunchy cookies are the perfect accompaniment to your coffee or tea.

Originating from the Portuguese island of Madeira, our Broas de Mel are made to an old family recipe, typically at Christmas time - but really, who needs an excuse to indulge in these little morsels at any time.

Just like our traditional Bolo de Mel, these cookies have a dark richness that comes from their sticky treacle base. Treacle has a richer flavour and deeper colour than golden syrup, and has the highest molasses content of all sugars which gives it that intense colour, distinctive liquorice flavour and mild smoky aroma. This makes it perfect for use in baked goods.

Our Broas de Mel have a shelf-life up to 8 months if kept sealed in their pouch. But we're certain they won't hang around that long once you start eating them, so it's best to always have a spare pack on hand!
